Sharon Walker

Specialist Psychological Therapist (currently pending HPCP regcognition)

Biography

I have just completed a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at London Metropolitan University. Humanistic principles underpin my practice and I believe a collaborative therapeutic relationship is central to creating a safe and trusting space for us to explore together, and ultimately empower clients to find their own ways through difficulties in our sessions and beyond.
Alongside my work at The London Centre, over the last few years I’ve gained extensive experience working therapeutically in mental-health services, applying Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with adults experiencing a variety of mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, bereavement or low self-esteem.

In my other career as a specialist primary teacher, and qualified play therapist, I have provided support and intervention to schools, families and children, supporting young people with a range of challenges in school, including Autism, ADHD, and many other social, emotional, learning and language difficulties.
I have had a strong interest in treating and preventing eating disorders and am passionate about making a difference in this area for individuals and whole families. In the future I would like to be part of developments in universal preventative actions, as well as further developing individual and family support programmes.
When not at work, I love going to the cinema, and being out hiking in the hills with my family and our dog.
