Why Clinical Expertise Matters

Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions that affect both psychological and physical health. Effective treatment typically requires input from clinicians with specific training in eating disorder models and risk management.

General counselling approaches may not address the full range of maintaining factors, particularly where there are nutritional, behavioural, and medical components involved.
A specialist assessment provides:

  • A comprehensive understanding of thoughts, behaviours, and risk
  • Diagnostic clarity where appropriate
  • An individualised formulation of the factors that may have contributed to and are maintaining the difficulties
  • Clear, evidence-based treatment recommendations aligned with both clinical need and personal goals
  • Careful consideration of physical health risk, with guidance on how this should be monitored and managed

Accessing appropriately specialised support can make a significant difference to both the experience of treatment and longer-term recovery.

Our Integrated Multidisciplinary Team (MDT)

We are a specialist eating disorder team working across psychology, psychiatry, dietetics and occupational therapy to provide coordinated care. Whilst many clients will only require the input of one clinician, there are cases where coordinated care is very likely to lead to better outcomes.

When needed our clinicians can work closely together to ensure:

  • Therapy is supported by nutritional rehabilitation
  • Medical and psychiatric needs are appropriately monitored
  • Treatment plans evolve as recovery progresses

This allows us to support a wide range of needs — from early concerns through to more complex presentations — within a structured outpatient setting.

Clinical Options and Accessibility

Understanding Your Treatment Options

Treatment is tailored to the individual and can vary in intensity over time.

Support may include:
  • Weekly psychological therapy
  • Dietetic input
  • Psychiatric support where needed
Where more structure is required, we may recommend our Intensive Outpatient Programme (IOP), offering:
  • Increased frequency of sessions
  • Structured therapeutic support across the week
  • Additional input such as meal support or recovery mentoring
If outpatient support is not sufficient, we can guide referrals to specialist day or inpatient services in the UK or internationally.

Remote Eating Disorder Resources Across the UK

We offer remote eating disorder consultations to ensure access to specialist care wherever you are. Online eating disorder therapy provides:

  • Flexible, accessible support
  • The same clinical standard as in-person treatment
  • Continuity of care across the UK
We recognise that cost can be a barrier to accessing support. Our supervised trainee pathway offers:

  • Reduced-cost specialist therapy
  • Close supervision from senior clinicians

Understanding Your Journey

Clarifying What You Are Experiencing

Understanding what you are experiencing is not always straightforward. While eating disorders may be part of the picture, other psychological or medical factors can also contribute, and it is important to consider these carefully.

A clinical assessment does not simply focus on diagnosis. Where appropriate, this may include identifying an eating disorder or other mental health condition, but it also involves developing a broader understanding of the difficulties.

This includes:

  • Clarifying whether an eating disorder is present, alongside any other relevant diagnoses
  • Careful consideration of differential diagnoses where symptoms may overlap
  • An individualised formulation of the factors contributing to and maintaining the difficulties

This process helps ensure that any recommendations for treatment are accurate, appropriate, and tailored to the individual, rather than based on assumptions or labels alone.

Recognising Early Signs

Early signs of eating disorders may include changes in eating patterns, increased anxiety around food or body image, or withdrawal from social situations involving food. Recognising these early can support timely intervention.

Building Awareness

Developing awareness of thoughts, behaviours, and emotional triggers is often the first step towards meaningful change.
