Biography
Eating Disorders can impact every area of a person’s life and as a result, change can be challenging and at times scary, but with the right support I believe that change is always possible and there is always hope for recovery. As a therapist I aim to be consistent, warm, and approachable. We will work collaboratively towards goals and build on strengths so that life can start to feel brighter and freer.
I have experience of working with people at various stages and severity of their eating disorder and I recognise the importance of creating a safe therapeutic space for people entering treatment and how important it is for someone to feel supported, validated and heard, with a non-judgemental and compassionate approach.
I can adapt my practice for people who may require support to develop skills around emotional regulation, anxiety and low mood alongside addressing their eating disorder. My nursing background gives me the skills and experience to be able to create the therapeutic relationship and space that is needed to work together and achieve your goals and individual recovery.
I am a registered mental health nurse with over 29 years’ experience in acute and community mental health. I specialised in adult eating disorders 10 years ago, and until recently I was the Senior Nurse Specialist for an NHS Adult Eating Disorder Service, and I am currently the Service Manager for a new early intervention and prevention service for eating disorders. I have recently completed my post graduate diploma in CBT (eating disorders) at University College London.
I am also a mum to 2 lovely boys and a British shorthair cat. I love to be with friends and trying new activities with my boys, which I am not always great at and find them laughing at me a lot!
