Dr Harriet Winstanley

Specialist Clinical Psychologist

Biography

I am a Senior Clinical Psychologist accredited by the HCPC and BABCP. I have worked in mental health services for the NHS since 2010 and have over 12 years experience working in the field of eating disorders.

I am passionate about supporting people with eating disorders and since qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist I have worked in various roles across NHS community and daycare eating disorder services. Most recently I set up an early intervention eating disorder service for the NHS, working as the Pathway Lead. I also work as a Clinical Supervisor at UCL on a postgraduate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders course and as a mentor for psychologists in training and other healthcare professionals working in this field.

My passion lies in delivering evidence based treatment to people with eating disorders. I have expertise in CBT, the Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA) and Radically Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (RO-DBT). I predominantly work with adults and older adolescents transitioning into adulthood. I take a person – centred and values based approach to my practice, ensuring that therapy matches the individuals’ goals.
I believe that meaningful change begins with a safe, trusting, and contained therapeutic relationship. My approach is warm, compassionate and collaborative, creating a space where individuals feel supported, understood, and able to be themselves. I am down-to-earth, approachable, and bring a sense of humour to my work when appropriate.

When I am not working I enjoy crafting, spending time with family and friends, reading and being active.
