Dr Charlotte Watson

BA (Hons), DClinPsy, Specialist Clinical Psychologist

Biography

I am a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist, having completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London. I have spent over thirteen years employed within the NHS, working with both children and adults. I first became interested in the field of eating disorders in 2009 when I was involved in supporting multiple research studies in this area. I quickly became aware of the far-reaching impact eating difficulties can have on individuals, their families and wider systems. Since then, my interest has continued, and I have worked across both adult and adolescent NHS eating disorder services in outpatient, day-hospital, and inpatient settings. My Clinical Psychology Doctorate thesis explored the experiences of women who developed restrictive eating behaviours after Bariatric Surgery. I have presented to international audiences on work relating to people who have eating difficulties and diabetes, as well as how we can support siblings of people with eating disorders.

Alongside my work at The London Centre, I am a Principal Clinical Psychologist at a London NHS Inpatient Child and Adolescent Eating Disorder Service. Before that I worked for over seven years at the Maudsley Centre for Child & Adolescent Eating Disorders, which is a National & Specialist NHS service. I do work with adults, but primarily work with children, adolescents, young adults with eating difficulties, as well as their families, using evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E) and family based treatments. I also draw upon my knowledge of other therapeutic models to create a tailored approach that works to support people’s specific individual needs. I am aware that neurodiversity can require additional adaptations and am passionate about making treatment as accessible as possible for everyone.

I am warm and welcoming and strive to work collaboratively with people, utilising their inner strengths to improve psychological wellbeing. I aim to create a non-judgemental, safe and containing therapeutic space. When I am not at work I enjoy visiting new places (especially if they are by the sea!) and spending time with family and friends.
