Eating Disorder Awareness Training

School Psycho-education and Awareness Sessions

The London Centre for Eating Disorders and Body Image offers a range of psycho-educational awareness session for pupils age 12 and above, their teachers and their parents. The aim of these sessions is to increase awareness and understanding of these disorders as well as to provide support and advice.

Teacher sessions cover (typically within 1 hour)

  • Signs and symptoms of eating problems
  • Body image, self esteem and depression
  • Understanding eating disorders (why do they occur)
  • What to do if you suspect or know that a pupil is struggling (in line with existing education policies)
  • How schools can support pupils undergoing treatment
  • Sources of support

Sessions for pupils include (typically within 45 minutes to 1 hour)

  • Eating disorder awareness
  • Long term impact of eating disorders
  • Bullying awareness
  • Media and social media awareness and literacy
  • A word from sufferers
  • What to do if you are struggling
  • What to do if a friend is struggling

Parent sessions cover (typically within 1 hour)

  • Eating disorder Awareness
  • Challenging common myths
  • Signs and symptoms to be aware of
  • What to do if your child is struggling
  • Sources of support

All sessions can be made to fit available time frame and can be built around the needs or requirements of the school.
